Wilmette Public Library Auditorium
1242 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette
The April Solo Exhibition will feature the work of printmaker Fotios Zemenides of Chicago and a winner in the 2013 Friends of the Wilmette Public Library 31st Juried Art Show.
His fine art prints, on display April 4 through 27, reflect the story of humanity and come from four separate series: The Disasters, The Four, Heroes/Villains and Posterity.
"The Disasters series reminds us that Nature herself is unforgiving and we must respect our environment.
The Four series is meant to invoke the elements of human interaction that are inflicted upon one another. These aspects are best described as the four horsemen of the apocalypse --war, famine, pestilence and death.
The images in the Heroes/Villains series are meant to invoke the elements of human interaction that are as described by the roles individuals play in society. A stable reality can only exist by constant awareness of what we do and questioning of the roles we play and how they ultimately affect one another, society and the world as a whole.
The images in the Posterity series depict a dark and pessimistic future in which unsustainable consumerism, disregard for intellectualism and aggressive international policies will ultimately create a planet that cannot support our civilization and quite possibly our species.
These prints are meant to remind the viewer that these disasters, both natural and man-made, affect us all. We should not take for granted what we have and what we are
capable of. "
