Katsy Johnson, October Solo Exhibit
Photographs by Katsy Johnson of Wilmette will be displayed in the Wilmette Public Library Gallery during the month of October.  Ms. Johnson was a winner in the 2013 Friends of the Library's Juried Art Show.
About the Artist:
A lifelong photography enthusiast, Ms. Johnson began combining her photographs with beeswax and resin about 7 years ago and has not looked back. Her work has won a commendation by Charles Osgood in ARC Gallery's National Exposure, has twice been exhibited in the San Diego Art Institute, as well as the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, RF Paints and Catalog and numerous Chicago land venues. Johnson is also a featured artist in Random House's Encaustic: A Guide to Creating Fine Art with Wax, by Lissa Rankin, and is a charter member of Perspective Fine Art Photography Gallery in Evanston, IL.
Artist Statement:
My work blends large photographs with encaustic, oil paint and tactile components such as fabric scraps or building materials. I revel in the dimensional aspect that the wax gives the images, from formerly grand, abandoned city structures to small rural cities en route to becoming ghost towns. Alone, the photographs simply document, but the addition of encaustic wax helps bind the viewer to the scene in an almost visceral sense.
