Village-Sponsored Programs
The Village of Wilmette is proud to have a history of taking progressive action to address housing needs. The Village sponsors the Housing Assistance Program (HAP) and Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) to assist residents in need. For senior citizens, the Village coordinates the buying and selling of condominium units at the Village Green Atrium. To better serve our residents, we also provide information below on programs available outside the jurisdiction of the Village.
Housing Assistance Program (HAP)

The Home Rehabilitation Program (CDBG) outlines the Village’s participation in this program that provides assistance with home renovation projects. The program is administered for the Village by the

Accessory Living Units Handbook
The
Accessory Living Units (ALU) Handbook outlines the guidelines for building an accessory living unit in an existing single family home. Please note that ALUs are a special use in the Village and require additional review by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Click

Fair Housing
The Village of Wilmette prohibits discrimination in real estate transactions. Section 9-14.4 (h) of the Village Code requires that notice of the fair housing ordinance be provided when real property is offered to the public for sale or lease.
