Thank you for taking the time to view the Village of Wilmette Fire Department web site.  We are excited to share a new enhanced view of our department.  We hope that this information will be helpful to you in your every day living and a valuable resource for your use in preparation for an emergency situation.

The Wilmette Fire Department continues to be a premier fire department due to the commitment and devotion to duty of its members.  The entire fire department team is dedicated to providing the best in life safety and emergency services. The Wilmette Fire Department averages over 6,500 emergency vehicle responses annually.

The Wilmette Fire Department is very proud of being a nationally accredited fire department.  The accreditation process independently evaluates the department’s compliance on over 230 individual performance indicators.   Wilmette was first accredited in 2001, becoming the 21st agency in the world to earn such recognition, and re-accredited in 2006.  Wilmette is one of 113 accredited agencies worldwide, 12 of which are in Illinois.  The organization is driven to provide a cost effective and efficient fire department while honoring our values, accomplishing our mission and achieving our goals.

In recent years, the fire service has been challenged with emergency medical services, water rescue, hazardous materials, all aspects of technical rescue, along with a large increase in emergency calls and non-emergency activities.  The Wilmette Fire Department has in all cases succeeded in implementing programs to answer these challenges while remaining focused on its main goal of protecting life and property.  Training our personnel to meet these challenges will continue to be a high priority.
