Electronic Recycling Guidelines
Starting January 1, 2012, Electronics Will No Longer
Be Collected With Residential Waste
The State has enacted legislation that bans all televisions and computer monitors from being put in Illinois landfills. Recently, Governor Quinn signed additional legislation that expands the number of banned electronic products to include the following items:
- Computers – PCs, Laptops + Monitors
- DVD Players, DVR/Cable Boxes/Satellite Receivers
- Fax Machines
- Mobile Phones
- MP3 Players, PDAs
- Computer Peripherals (Mice, Keyboards, Drives)
- Printers, Scanners
- TVs, VHS Players
- Video Game Consoles
- Stereo Equipment
Under the new legislation, these electronics can no longer be disposed of through the residential waste program. For more information about the new legislation, go to http://www.epa.state.il.us/.
The following locations will host permanent electronics locations. Collection locations will be closed on national holidays. To view the list of accepted items at each location, please visit the organizations’ website.

Residents can also drop off small electronic items at Village Hall. Sellable items left at this location may be auctioned on Ebay. The proceeds will go toward maintaining Avenues to Independence. Only the following items will be accepted at this location:
- Cell Phones
- Laptops
- Inkjet Cartridges
- MP3 Players
- Cameras
- GPS Devices
- Radar Detectors
Battery Recycling Program
SWANCC and Interstate Batteries signed the 2012 Agreement to continue the Battery Recycling Program for another year.
