Partnership For Safe Water

The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary effort between six drinking water organizations and more than 400 surface water utilities throughout the US. The goal of the Partnership is to provide a higher level of treatment by implementing prevention programs where regulations do not currently exist. The preventative measures are centered on optimizing treatment plant performance, thus increasing protection against microbial contamination in the treated water supply.

The Village joined the Partnership for Safe Water in 2005 and began the process of reviewing and documenting existing operations and implementing new prevention programs. In June 2007, the Village received the Partnership's Directors Award at the Annual American Water Works Conference in Toronto, Ontario. The Directors Award is one of the highest honors in the nation a water treatment facility can receive. There are only about 200 treatment plants in the country -- and only eight in Illinois -- have achieved this level of performance.
