Improvement Initiatives

Curb & Gutter Improvements

Each year, the Village allocates funds for maintenance of the curbs and gutters in the Village. In order to qualify for a repair, the curb must either be deteriorating or uneven. Priority of replacement is given to hazardous curbs that do not comply with the standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Sewer Improvements

The Engineering Department prepares and reviews plans and specifications for sewer extension requests from residents, as well as point repairs in the Village sewer.

Sidewalk Improvements

The Village regularly allocates funds for sidewalk maintenance. Hazardous sidewalks are removed and replaced at no cost to residents. Residents who would like their non-hazardous sidewalk removed may take advantage of discounted municipal rates.

In 2000, the Village has begun a five-year plan to replace all of the broken and damaged sidewalks in the Village. Each year, engineering staff will examine all of the sidewalks in a designated section to replace the sidewalk that is in disrepair. The Village has been divided into 5 sections, and each year one section will be surveyed. This way, we can proactively replace sidewalk instead of waiting until there is a trip hazard or other dangerous situation.

Street & Alley Maintenance and Improvement (SAMP)

The Village also budgets for preventive maintenance of streets and alleys. Of this budgeted amount, approximately one-third is directed toward street patching and crack sealing. The remainder is applied toward resurfacing one-sixth of the Village's 64 unimproved alleys.
