Wilmette, Illinois-The Wilmette Fire Department is pleased to announce the arrival of our new public education Family Safety House. This public education trailer is designed to look like a standard home, and is used to provide instruction in fire safety and fire prevention, as well as severe weather situations. The Family Safety House is mobile and will be brought to different schools in the community, group elderly homes and community special events.
The Family Safety House is a valuable resource for all residents in Wilmette, and its surrounding communities, because it can be used to instruct the public on the importance of fire safety, fire prevention and severe weather preparation. The Fire Department will use the Family Safety House to supplement the programs already provided to all schools within the Village. This training will also be offered at the Fire Department Open House, community fairs, school fairs, or other large functions that the Fire Department might attend. The Fire Department will deliver hands-on training and education to children and their parents in the safe, controlled and realistic environment provided by the trailer. The Family Safety House was acquired by the Fire Department through the Assistance to Firefighter's Grant program, also known as the FIRE Act grant program, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (F.E.M.A.).
