Is Your Lawn Sprinkler System in Compliance?

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Village Code require that a cross connection control device be installed on all lawn sprinkler systems to prevent potentially contaminated water in lawn sprinkler system lines from flowing back into the Village's water supply.

In order to ensure compliance with the Village Code, it is recommended that the property owner have an existing system inspected before installing a cross connection control device. The installing contractor is the best person to inspect the system and assist the owner with making any upgrades.

The Village Code also requires that the cross connection valve be tested annually. The tests must be certified and the results submitted to the Village's Water Meter Shop at the Water Plant, 200 Lake Ave , prior to the lawn sprinkler system being activated each spring.

If you have any questions about the Village's Cross Connection, please contact Al Janosz, Water Plant Meter Shop, at 847-853-7537 or janosza@wilmette.com.

In addition, sprinkler heads must be a minimum of one foot from any curbs or sidewalks and sprinkler lines must be one foot under any public sidewalks. If you have any questions regarding the location of sprinklers, please contact the Engineering Department at 847-853-7660.
