The meter shop at the water plant is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all residential and commercial water meters located in the Village. Beginning in 2001, the meter shop started an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) program to replace old style meters with new radio read meters. The new style meters will eliminate the need for meter readers to enter the house for routine readings and will permit automation of the billing process. This is an ongoing program, scheduled for completion some time in 2012. Residents with meters that need this service will be contacted by letter or in person by the water meter repair technicians.
As a courtesy service, the meter shop also advises residents on possible causes of low water pressure and if necessary conducts pressure tests inside the home to help diagnose low pressure problems. For more information about your water meter, the AMR program or low pressure testing, please call the meter shop at (847) 853-7537.
The meter shop also oversees the Village’s Cross Connection Control program. This is a program that insures the protection of the potable water supply from contamination at cross connections in the distribution system. If you have questions about cross connection control, you may contact the meter shop at (847) 853-7537 or the Village’s plumbing inspector at 847-853-7524.
