| The
World's Columbition Exposition in Chicago in 1893 marked a
transformation in popular taste. it was the dominance of classical
themes in the design of this Exposition that revived more
traditional forms, particularly those of the classical, Renaissance
and eighteenth century models. Examples of Colonial, Georgian,
Spanish Colonial, Renaissance and Tudor Revivals popular from
the 1890s to the 1930s are found in Wilmette. Notable concentrations
of these styles can be found in the 1000-1200 blocks of Chesnut
Avenue and in Indian Hill Estates. |
