The Foursquare style also evolved in the first quarter of the 20th century and is so named since its floor plan is characteristically four rooms above four rooms. Foursquare are two-story cubic forms in wood frame, masonry or stucco with a broad front porch across the full face of the building. Many have wide overhanging eaves, horizontal banding, and art glass windows typically of the Prairie school. They were built throughout the older suburbs of Chicago and many examples are found in old neighborhoods of Wilmette.
