Holiday Lights Recycling Program

The Village of Wilmette, in partnership with Elgin Recycling and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC), is now accepting holiday lights for recycling through January 31, 2018.

Holiday lights can be dropped off at the Wilmette Public Works Facility, located at 711 Laramie Avenue. The recycling boxes will be located in the visitor’s parking lot, accessible 24-hours a day.

The recycling program will accept all holiday string lighting (all colors and lengths). Please remove any bags or packaging from the lights before depositing them in the recycling bins. Garland, live greens, and wreathes are not accepted with this program. These items should be disposed of through the regular solid waste program.

If you have any questions regarding the Holiday Lights Recycling Program, please contact the Engineering & Public Works Department at (847) 853-7500 or pubworks@wilmette.com.
