Cook County Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Leave Update

At its June 26, 2018 meeting, the Village Board voted as follows on the Cook County Ordinances:

Minimum Wage – “Opted-in” to the minimum wage ordinance by a 5-2 vote with the following conditions:

  • Delayed effective date of the Cook County Ordinance – effective date in Wilmette on October 1, 2018
  • The “Opt-in” would sunset in the event the State of Illinois increases the minimum wage (Wilmette would then revert to the State minimum wage)
  • The “Opt-in” would sunset in the event Cook County makes any amendment to its Ordinance (Wilmette would then revert to the State minimum wage)
  • The “Opt-in” would sunset on July 1, 2021 when the Cook County minimum wage is indexed by the CPI (Wilmette would revert to the State minimum wage if it had not increased from $8.25/hour)

Paid Sick Leave – Remain opted-out of the Cook County Paid Sick Leave Ordinance by a vote of 6-1.
