The Villages of Wilmette, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie will host a joint public open house regarding the extension of the Skokie Valley Trail on Wednesday, May 29, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Glenview Village Hall, 2500 East Lake Ave., Glenview, IL.
In its current form, the trail runs for 10 miles from Lake Bluff south to Dundee Road in Northbrook, picking back up in Skokie for two miles. The planned trail extension would consist of a 10-foot-wide shared-use path from Voltz Road in Northbrook and Old Orchard Road in Skokie. The proposed trail extension would run along Commonwealth-Edison’s right-of-way, a portion of discontinued Union Pacific right-of-way, and a portion of existing Village of Northfield right-of-way. When the project is finished, the new Skokie Valley Trail will create a connection through Wilmette, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie.
The Village of Wilmette teamed up with the Villages of Glenview, Northfield, and Skokie to obtain a $188,000 grant from the Invest in Cook program which ultimately funded the engineering study for the trail segment. To find out more and discuss the plan with Villlage staff and the project team, join us at the May 29 open house.
