National Native American Heritage Month

The month of November is recognized as National Native American Heritage Month to acknowledge the perseverance of America’s first people despite a painful history marked by unjust Federal policies. The month also serves to pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans, and to recognize the contributions Native American people have made to American history, society, and culture. Wilmette residents are encouraged to learn more about the various tribal nations and their cultures and to celebrate this month through programs and activities.

At the November 8 Village Board of Trustees meeting, President Plunkett read the National Native American Heritage Month Proclamation. Click here to view the Proclamation. Click here to watch the reading of the Proclamation.
