The Village extends approximately five miles west from Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. The Village is a home rule community with a Village President and Board of Trustees elected at large and a Village Manager who runs the day to day operations of the Village. Wilmette was incorporated as a municipal corporation in 1872.
