Fire Prevention Week marks the anniversary of the Chicago Fire. “Sparky the Fire Dog” and the Wilmette Fire Department are inviting all youngsters to bring their parents to the Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Immediately following, the Fire Department invite children with special needs and their family’s from 12 noon until 1:00 PM to enjoy the open house in a more quiet and controlled environment. Come to Fire Station 26, located at 1304 Lake Avenue. Fire Trucks, firefighting and paramedic equipment as well as water rescue, special rescue and hazardous materials response equipment will be on display. Kids, don’t forget to bring your favorite stuffed animal. Specially trained paramedics will be available to perform a “checkup” on your stuffed animal so you can experience what it would be like to be a patient.
In addition, families can visit the Family Safety House, a mobile home designed to teach home fire safety. Fire Prevention Week is October 9th – 15th. The theme this year is “Don’t Wait! Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years”.
We will have a team checking child/baby car seats. Look for the signs for the designated area.
Free parking is available in the Metra lot adjacent to the Fire Station.
