The Wilmette Historical Museum will hold its Annual Meeting and lecture via Zoom on Sunday, January 31st. Susan Benjamin, noted historic preservationist and architectural historian, will discuss her new book Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975, which she co-authored with Michelangelo Sabatino from the Illinois Institute of Technology.  Beautifully illustrated with many historic images, the book surveys over fifty houses in the Chicago area, including several from Wilmette.  Ms. Benjamin’s talk will explore the substantial yet overlooked role that Chicago and its suburbs played in the development of the modern single family home in the twentieth century.

This free virtual lecture which will be preceded by a brief meeting of the Wilmette Historical Society. Reservations must be made by January 29th on the museum website. You can email museum@wilmette.com or call (847) 853-7666 with any questions.
