Government

The Village of Wilmette prides itself on having an efficient and professionally managed government.

The Village Board is the legislative and policy-making body of the Village and includes the Village President and six Trustees. The President and Trustees are elected at-large and serve staggered four year terms. Village Code prohibits Village Board members from serving more than two consecutive terms.  The Village Board does not receive compensation.

The Village operates under the council-manager form of government with the day-to-day operations of the Village in the hands of a full-time professional Village Manager who is appointed by the Village Board.

In addition to the Village Board, over 70 Wilmette residents serve on 12 boards and commissions.  The Village President appoints members to the boards and commissions with the approval of the Village Board. The first step for any resident interested in serving the Village in such a position is to complete a Talent Bank Questionnaire. To volunteer, click here to complete the Talent Bank Questionnaire.
