Land use planning is a function of municipal government that provides a mechanism for orderly and desirable development as well as preservation of existing desirable physical elements of the Village. In addition to the traditional Building Department functions, the Department of Community Development is also responsible for land use planning, subdivisions, annexations, rezonings, site plan review and review of development proposals. Business development, historic preservation, and housing are specific areas of land use planning that are addressed by the Village through various commissions, programs, and staff activities.
Subdivision and Consolidation
Chapter 15 of the Village Code regulates planning and platting including subdividing and consolidating property. Such requests are reviewed for recommendation by the Plan Commission. Click here for the subdivision/consolidation handbook and application.
Temporary Uses and Structures
