To better connect with residents, the Village offers two opt-in services: Smart911 for emergency communications (replacing the previously used Wilmette CODE RED), and Wilmette eNews for more regular communication. Follow the links to register your household and be better informed about your community.
The Village is excited to be joining a growing local effort to encourage residents to register for Smart911. This new system has dual purpose: first, it allows you to create a Safety Profile which provides important information to first responders in emergencies, and second, it will replace Wilmette CODE RED as the Village’s emergency alert notification system.
Safety Profile
What is a Smart911 Safety Profile? Smart 911 is a free, opt-in service in which you create a Safety Profile. Your Smart911 Safety Profile can include as much or as little information that you want 911 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency. When anyone in your household dials 911 from a landline or cellphone associated with their Safety Profile, their profile is immediately displayed to the emergency dispatcher. Your Safety Profile is secure and confidential, and is only used by emergency responders. All residents are encouraged to create a Safety Profile.
Some of the information that could be life-saving includes:
- Home and work addresses (which mobile phones do not currently provide to a 911 dispatcher)
- People living in your household
- Medications and medical equipment
- Medical conditions and allergies
- Pets, service animals
- Property details, layout and utility information
- Vehicle descriptions
- Phone numbers associated with your family
- Emergency contacts

Emergency Alerts and Village Service Notifications
Can I register for Wilmette-specific alerts and notifications through Smart911? Yes – In your Safety Profile, you can choose to receive the notifications via phone call, text, e-mail or through the mobile app. When using the app, the system provides you real-time information based on your location. In addition to Wilmette specific alerts, the system allows you to opt-in to notifications from other local public safety agencies and the National Weather Service based on your location.
What if I have questions? If you are having trouble creating your Safety Profile or if you have questions about how the new system will be used, please contact the Wilmette Police Dispatch Center at 847-256-1200.
