Joel Kurzman is a strategic nonprofit and community leader who specializes in health care and human services. He has previously worked in public policy or government affairs roles for organizations serving people with disabilities, a public health organization dedicated to preventing blindness, and a Fortune 100 health care company. He currently serves as Director of State Government Affairs for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, representing the industry’s health care agenda in a nine-state Midwest region.
In his earliest career endeavors, Joel implemented school-based mental health programs and worked in after-school programs serving inner-city children. He also worked in a residential facility serving children with severe emotional disturbance. Although he loved working directly with children and families, Joel’s passion for public policy and community service led him to obtain a Master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.
You can often find Joel walking with his wife, Allison, or riding bicycles with his two children through Wilmette’s many wonderful neighborhoods. Joel regularly works out at the Center Fitness Club. The Kurzman family especially enjoys trips to the Wilmette Public Library, attending theater performances of the Wilmette Park District, and watching their children’s sporting events and school music shows.
