COVID-19: Community Caretakers Program

In response to COVID-19, the Village of Wilmette is looking to coordinate with other local organizations within the Village to provide caretaker services to help support the Village’s elderly and disabled population. We currently have a list of 1,500 vulnerable residents over age 70 based on Fire Department service calls from the past 3 years, we are working to expand that list with the help of the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Ultimately, the role of the Village in this program will be to act as a “matchmaker.” We will coordinate with those in need and our partnering organizations to ensure all reasonable requests made by Village residents are fulfilled.

What does the program offer and who is operating it?

  • This program will coordinate free delivery of essential items (food, water, toiletries, medicine, etc.) to Wilmette residents who are unable to obtain these items themselves.
  • The Village of Wilmette is partnering with several community organizations (League of Women Voters, various Houses of Worship, the Rotary Club, media outlets, etc.) to offer services through this program.

How Do I Apply for Program Assistance?

  • Elderly and disabled residents who are having difficulty with obtaining essential supplies should contact the Wilmette Village Manager’s Office at (847) 853-7502 or email arteagaa@wilmette.com
  • The Wilmette Village Manager’s Office, Police Department, and Fire Department will match residents and their requests to available volunteers.
