On October 27, 2020 the Village Board granted Optima Wilmette Final Planned Unit Development (PUD) approval for a mixed-use building on the site of the International Bank, 1210 Central Avenue. The proposed development consists of 109 rental dwelling units and approximately 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail/restaurant space.
The Village’s Environmental & Energy Commission has begun working on a comprehensive sustainability plan for the Village in accordance with the goals of the Greenest Region Compact. Click here to view the most recent version of Wilmette’s Draft Sustainability Plan.
Following five years of study and an intensive public education campaign, the Wilmette Board of Trustees voted on April 17, 2018 to pursue a stormwater improvement project to address flooding issues for residents who live west of Ridge Road. Phase 1 and 1A construction was substantially completed in 2020, Phase 2 construction is underway, and Phase 3 construction is slated for 2022.
The Downtown Streetscape Plan is focused on improvements to Wilmette and Central Avenues within downtown, including improvements to lighting, sidewalks, roadways, plantings, and amenities. The streetscape improvements include updates to below and above ground infrastructure, as well as enhancements to the public realm that reinforce Downtown as a welcoming and friendly community center.
At their 02/23/21 meeting, the Village Board approved the Master Bike and Active Transportation Plan. Planning and implementation of the plan will be part of the 2022 budgetary progress beginning in early fall.
Between May 15 and September 30, the Village of Wilmette prohibits the use of gasoline-powered leaf blowers. (Wilmette Village Code, Ch. 16, Sec. 16-115)
